This simple yet elegant carpet has been designed by Altaf in Herati- Kashan-style, with a medallion as the primary motif consisting of repetitions of the Herati design, i.e. a floral head supported by a diamond framework and flanked by four outwardly curling leaves. These leaves are said to symbolise the Mahi fish, which come up just below the surface of the lake they reside in to swim in the moonʼs reflection. The medallion is bounded in layers by intricate floral and “Boteh” designs, which symbolise the garden of paradise.
